Hydrology and Surface Runoff
DHVmed is among Israel’s leaders in surface hydrology and urban runoff management
Our team provides professional services to the Water Authority, drainage authorities, municipal bodies, and numerous infrastructure projects, executing master plans for water supply, watershed management plans for flood prevention, runoff prediction analyses, and drainage appendices for various projects. Our department also specializes in environmental hydrological surveys and system planning using computerized modeling tools, advanced models, and up-to-date analytical methods
Climate change, population growth, and urban development trends have made urban runoff management a significant and costly long-term challenge. At DHVmed, we look toward the future, developing master plans with a multi-decade perspective:
Municipal Sewerage and Runoff Management Plans: Our team enables authorities to map current conditions and plan future developments according to changes in rainfall patterns, local needs, existing facilities, and planned urban growth. Using advanced computerized modeling, we simulate flow within urban systems, preventing flooding and ensuring peace of mind for ongoing infrastructure development.
Watershed Plans: Our watershed master plans for drainage authorities map rivers, assess conveyance and flood capacities, and establish roadmaps for reservoirs and protective infrastructure, following the flood risk management methodology from Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture. Our team, which contributed to developing this methodology, also possesses extensive experience conducting economic evaluations for various flood risk management plans, river restoration projects, and nature-based runoff management solutions.
Water Supply Plans: DHVmed proudly advises the Water Authority on Israel’s national water sector master plan, supporting local and regional authorities in planning water extraction, conveyance, and storage systems. We develop long-term master plans forecasting climate change impacts, population growth, and future consumption for optimal national water management, planning, and investment.
Our team designs stream management and drainage facilities within most drainage authorities nationwide, addressing regional flooding threats while preserving floodplains and broad green corridors. We emphasize nature-based solutions and preserving river corridors as living connectors between different spaces—a globally recognized and promoted approach. We currently lead flood risk management and watershed flood prevention plans for authorities such as Yarkon, Kishon, Carmel, and Western Galilee, and participate in water resource planning and eco-hydrological restoration with drainage authorities and the Nature and Parks Authority.
Groundwater is an essential resource that requires protection. Planning authorities and government ministries mandate environmental hydrological surveys aligned with national outline plans whenever water contamination risks arise. Farmers, real estate developers, fuel stations, and industrial facilities must prevent groundwater contamination and environmental hazards. Our team conducts hydrological surveys assessing project area sensitivity, proximity to water resources and extraction wells, contamination prevention measures, and anticipated environmental and groundwater impacts.
DHVmed’s hydrological team contributes to guidelines for urban runoff management in National Outline Plan 1 (TAMA 1) and serves as a drainage consultant for Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality. We prepare drainage appendices, outline plans (TABA), and green building plans for various developers. We are responsible for preparing the runoff pollution reduction plan for the Barcelona Convention Secretariat and the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MoEP). This plan, part of Israel’s commitment to the LBS Protocol, accompanies updates to the National Plan for Marine Pollution Reduction. Additionally, we support the MoEP in implementing this plan nationally.
Our detailed runoff and drainage projects range from outline plans to detailed designs for numerous municipalities, including Haifa, Holon, Ashdod, and Eilat. Our clients also include Netivei Ayalon and the Ministry of Construction and Housing.
We provide comprehensive planning under one roof for water, sewage, and drainage systems within detailed outline plans for local and regional authorities. We offer consulting, planning, and underground infrastructure mapping services in densely populated urban areas and developing regions, ensuring future planning aligns with community needs and municipal requirements.
